God has been tugging at my heart to return to this little blog and to study His Word with the desire to know Him better. I remember when I felt He told me to do a blog and I didn’t have the first clue as to how to do that. But I was willing and He led me here. I had some great times with Him and with you in His Word as I posted. I can remember coming to the conclusion that it was about doing what He asks me to do and leaving the results up to Him. I just enjoyed getting in the Word and seeing what it said about who He is. I enjoyed meeting those of you who commented or stopped by to read it.
This brings me to today. God has done some amazing things in my life in the past couple of years when I’ve been absent here. I am in the third year of a three-year class on Discipleship that has been life changing for me. It focused on my relationship with God, what He has called me and gifted me to do, how to be a disciple of Christ and then how to help others to become disciples. I have enjoyed people God has brought into my life to come alongside and love and encourage in their walk with Jesus.
Some of the fun creative things God and I have been doing are Bible Art Journaling from time to time to get His Word deeper as I draw and write in a little journal and I have always made homemade cards and have several scrapbooks I continue to work on for each of my grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
We did a lot of traveling in 2017 with family and to see family and friends who live out-of-state. The people in my life, precious family and dear friends, continue to be my top love and priority right after my awesome God.
So what has been happening in your life this past couple of years? What new things have you learned about who God is and who you are? What are you spending time doing and what are your priorities in life? I really would like to hear so stop in and tell us. I will be praying for you and asking God to draw both of us closer to Him as we dig into His Word from time to time.
Happy Independence Day week my sweet friends! What are your plans? Will it include a barbecue and fireworks? Will it be around cool water? Oh My is it hot here! It is 104 today and cool water sounds wonderful! Cooking over a hot barbecue not so much right now!
I think this is a good opportunity to thank our awesome God for the freedom we have enjoyed here in the United States of America for all of our lives. It is a blessing I so often take for granted. One that, as I watch the news and listen to wise men and women, could be slipping away and may be gone if not in my lifetime but possibly that of my children, grands and greats. I’m not a gloom and doom person and I trust my God and am often filled with hope and gratitude at the blessings He has so richly provided me and those I love. But, recent decisions that have given others freedom may have begun to erode my security in my religious freedom. One thing I know, our country was at one time one nation, under God and now little by little He is being removed and His presence not wanted. My fear is one day He will give people what they want and then all hell will literally break loose.
I’ve been studying the book of Acts this week. If you want to grow in knowing God read this mighty book that tells of how He gave His Holy Spirit to His believers and the persecution and scattering they faced only grew them bigger and allowed them to share who He was wherever they went.
On this Independence Day I am asking Him to call His mighty Holy Spirit to light fires of His power in each of His followers in this great nation. May that power enable us to endure what He allows in the coming years and may we live freely in His awesome grace He gives through the precious blood of His son, Jesus Christ. May we fulfill the call He places on our hearts to share who He is with everyone we come in contact with.
You are free to tell people the full message of this new life, even as Stephen did by his death, as Paul did by his difficult missionary journeys and imprisonment, and as Agabus did through the two prophecies I gave him then recorded (Acts 11:27-29; 21:10-11). You are now free to really live! From 66 Love Letters on Acts, Dr. Larry Crabb
Hi sweet friends! I love the Psalms don’t you? So many contain descriptions that make it so clear who my God is, what He does, what He likes and doesn’t. Today I opened to Psalm 146. What a blessing to read through the wonderful descriptive phrases about my amazing God! As you read through the list below be sure to think about them in terms of who He is not just words on a computer screen:
- Verse 5 – He is our help and our hope
- Verse 6 – He is the Maker of heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them-He is faithful forever
- Verse 7 – He upholds the cause of the oppressed, gives food to the hungry, and sets prisoners free
- Verse 8 – He gives sight to the blind, lifts up those who are bowed down, and loves the righteous
- Verse 9 – He watches over the foreigner, sustains the fatherless and the widow, but frustrates the ways of the wicked
- Verse 10 – He reigns forever, for all generations
I don’t know about you but as I read through this Psalm I am filled with awe and hope. When you read through them was there something that jumped out at you? Does one of them fit you today? Do you need His help for a situation going on in your life? Have you received a diagnosis and need His healing? Do you need chains of bondage to drop off so you can be free to be all He designed you to be? Know that these are truths about who He is and what He can do. Do not live in despair or fear but choose to believe He is who He says He is and ask Him to be that for you today.
Where Healing and actually all of them are concerned I am not talking about the belief that if you have enough faith He will heal you, etc.. We see in the life of Jesus there were times He told people their faith had healed them but there are others where their faith isn’t even mentioned. I believe God can do anything. I believe He hears every prayer I pray and has them in His hands. Part of my believing Him is that I trust His will for my life. He never promised a life with no problems. He did promise He would be there with me as I walk through the good and the bad both.
May you be in His Word and hear Him speak His truths into your heart. Have a wonderful day and be blessed my friend. Keep on growing!!!
“You study the scriptures diligently because you think that in them you have eternal life. These are the very scriptures that testify about me, yet you refuse to come to me to have life.” John 5:39-40
I have so enjoyed being on a teaching team studying the life of Jesus from the harmony of the gospels. As I have studied it has hit me over and over how Jesus dealt with the Jewish leaders and teachers. As the scripture above states from His response to their persecution over healing on the Sabbath, He tells them so much about who He is. Over and over as they resent Him, try to discredit Him, persecute Him and eventually send Him to the cross He continues to share and make clear His deity and purpose and how it is the fulfillment of the many prophecies regarding the Messiah from the Law they considered themselves to be experts in.
Jesus’ love and compassion and the way He gives them the truth but always gives them opportunities to believe amazes me. These are the ones who should have loved Jesus more! They are the ones who had the Word so deeply rooted in their lives they should have immediately recognized who He was. He just didn’t look like what they thought He should. He didn’t do the things they thought He should. Do you have someone in your life like that? Do they miss who you really are because they think or want you to be something else. Are they so critical of who you aren’t that they miss loving you for who you are?
We have an awesome opportunity to grow in knowing God. When we see how He interacts with the Pharisees we can know how to interact with these people in our lives. We can never give up on them or the relationship we have with them. We can listen to their criticism and continue to love them and want them to know who we are. We can be who we are without compromising our spiritual values and purposes. We can search out God’s Word to see what He does with those who don’t love Him or don’t love Him as they should. I confess that is me sometimes! So much of the time I love myself more than Him in actions and deeds.
I am so glad we are on this journey together! I would love to hear what God is showing you about who He is from His Word! Keep on growing in knowing God! Blessings my sweet friends!
Hi my sweet friends! As I have been in God’s Word this week, I have been reminded to check my motives and not just be going through the motions when I study and pray. In Psalm 50 God gives us a beautiful picture of who He is and what He wants from us.
- Vs 1 – He is the Mighty One, God, the Lord and He speaks and summons the earth from the rising of the sun until it sets.
- Vs 2 – He shines forth from Zion, perfect in beauty
- Vs 3 – He comes and will not be silent, fire devours before Him and a tempest rages around Him
- Vs 4 – He summons the heavens above, and the earth, that He may judge His people
- Vs 6 – The heavens proclaim His righteousness, for He is a God of justice
- Vs 7 – If we listen He will speak to us. He tells us what is wrong in our lives. He is our God!
- Vs 9 -13 – He doesn’t need the animal sacrifices (or today, the external things we do in the way of rules and regulations we or others place on ourselves) Everything belongs to Him already. He doesn’t need anything from us by way of physical things.
So what does God say He wants from us?
“Sacrifice thank offerings to God, fulfill your vows to the Most High, and call
on me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will honor me.”
He just wants us to be thankful for all He has done for us and to follow through on what we agree with Him about. Then He gifts us with wanting us to call on Him in times of trouble so that He can deliver us We have such an amazing God!!! That we can honor Him, is so humbling to me. The God who spoke the world in place asks only that I be thankful as He works in my life to bring Him honor is beyond comprehension.
I stand in awe of our Mighty God! The last of that Psalm speaks to the wicked. The “but” in verse 16 tells me He is no longer speaking to His people. I am grateful that through the Lord Jesus’ blood shed for me He sees me as His beloved child. I count that as an awesome privilege and truly an unearned gift of grace. I would love to hear what else He gives you from Psalm 50. Have a blessed day! Give Him your hands of service but first be sure you give Him your heart! Love you guys!!!
We got the call at 3:40 am two weeks ago today. My 43 year old son was in the hospital and was in surgery after a heart attack. We raced there and sat with his wife and prayed for our precious son. After surgery the Dr showed us a picture of an artery that carried blood to half of his heart blocked 100%. The second picture showed it fully opened after insertion of a stent. As I sat with him in the hospital all I could do was thank God for giving him a second chance at life and thank Him for allowing me to continue to be Mom to my amazing son.
As we got further news with tests he had done that he had no damage to his heart I was so very grateful and within my soul I felt even more deeply an appreciation for God giving His only son to die that horrible death on the cross for my sins and the sins of the world. He had given His precious son for me and mine but allowed me to keep my precious son.
The last post I made last July told of a year of difficulty and our recent race to the hospital gave me another opportunity to trust my most trustworthy God. All of us have stories of both the good and wonderful things and the heartbreaks of this life we live. When the next difficulty comes our way, I am praying both you and I will remember that our God is good, all the time. He is loving and has our best interest at heart, all the time. I would love to pray for you if you are in a season of heartache or trouble. Just post a comment with your first name and I will pray for you. Lets not try to do this thing called life first without God and secondly without each other.
I leave you today with this, “I delight greatly in the Lord; my soul rejoices in my God. for He has clothed me with garments of salvation and arrayed me in a robe of His righteousness, as a bridegroom adorns his head like a priest, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.” Isaiah 61:10. Are you delighting greatly in the Lord no matter what circumstances come your way? I am praying for you that you answered yes! Love you my sweet friends. See you next time!
