Study God's Word to know Him better

I asked Jesus to be my savior at around 13 and I will be 69 this year.  We have been on such a wonderful journey over this past 56 years!  What an amazing God I have!  That He would love me so!  That He cared for me enough to send His precious Son to die on the cross for my sins and to make me a new creation in Him is hard to comprehend.  That He wants a relationship with me and calls me His beloved child, His spotless bride, and His friend is something I can’t fully wrap my mind around most of the time.  And that He wants to spend the rest of eternity with me is a miracle!

I have been involved in Bible studies for over 40 years.  Mostly women’s Bible studies, which is where He has allowed me to have wonderful relationships with many of my sisters in Christ. I have become aware of how so much of my Bible study is still all about me.  After 40 years you would think I would have my focus firmly fixed on Him.  As I said, I have realized it is still so much all about me.  When I read His word I grab onto those things He speaks to my heart that encourage me or give me hope.  Those are wonderful and I love Him so for giving them to me.  They are the sunshine in my life and let me know who I am and how blessed I am in Him.

I want this study to be different.  As best possible I want it to be all about Him.  I want to focus on what His word tells me about who He is, what He likes, what He dislikes, what His character is.  So in this pursuit I would love for you to join me.  It may take 10 years to finish but I am starting at the beginning and going where and at whatever pace He takes me.  I will still be doing other studies at the same time. If you choose to join me on this journey for a bit or for the whole trip, I hope you will do the same.  If we both read the scriptures and then share what God has given us about Him it will expand our understanding of who He is.  I can’t wait to see what we will learn together as we grow in our knowledge of God!

I have been married for 50 years, in August, to a dear patient man.  I have two wonderful children, five beautiful grandchildren, and two amazing great grandsons!  I also have their spouses and loved ones along with precious friends who have become family to me. They are all my most prized gifts from God.  We love each other though our lives are like all of yours…they are far from perfect and from time to time they are studded with tears of both joy and sadness.

I was a stay at home mom working part-time jobs, like McDonalds, that allowed me to be home with them until my youngest was in High School.  I worked for the University of Pacific for 13 years and after retiring from there did temp work for them for a few years.  I went back to work full time at my church, Quail Lakes Baptist, in 2007 and retired from there in 2012.  I have been a member there for over 37 years. I loved working there and was so blessed to work for and with some amazing men and women of God who gave me wondrous love and grace on a daily basis.

If you have any questions about anything I have written or want to tell me what God has given you without leaving a comment on the page, you may email me at

I love the Lord with all my heart and so love that we will be on this journey together.  Let’s get growing!

Dear God, as I begin this journey of searching out the scriptures, I pray you reveal to me all you desire for me to know about you.  Please help me to keep my focus on you and not revert as always to me.  I pray you do this for anyone else who joins us.  I love you and I am so very excited to begin!
